Thirdly, there is an instructor who is more of a teacher, and their roles are integrated. An instructor leads the learning process or activity, undertakes assessment and takes learners through a defined course/or subject (Girotto et al., 2019). Next, there is the educator, which is a broad term and may include an individual who plays a part in education, i.e., teachers, instructors, and professors, among others, who contribute to learners’ learning and development process. For example, in an educational setting, he may guide discussions, foster collaboration, and create the best learning environment. He focuses more on actively engaging learners by providing relevant help and resources.
Finally, there is the preceptor, an experienced professional who provides one-on-one supervision and guidance to learners. In clinical settings, they provide learners with hands-on learning, training and mentoring in real-world situations (Gcawu & van Rooyen, 2022). In summary, while there is some overlap in these roles, the distinctions lie in the specific functions, contexts, and relationships involved.
